    The unprecedented sensitivity and large field of view of SKA will be of paramount importance for pulsar science, and for many related research fields. In particular, beside the obvious discovery of many more pulsars (even those with very low luminosity), and the extremely accurate timing analysis of the current pulsar population, SKA will allow to use pulsars to measure or put strong constraints on gravitational waves, Galactic magnetism, planet masses, general relativity and nuclear physics.     Authors: Sashitharran S/O Nallathambi;

    Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is a condition that involves chest discomfort or other symptoms caused by lack of oxygen to the heart muscles (myocardium). ACS is a set of manifestations or symptoms due to the disturbances in the coronary arteries. ACS includes coronary heart disease, ranging from unstable angina pectoris and myocardial infarction without ST-segment elevation up to myocardial infarction with ST-segment elevation. All three of these disorders are called Acute Coronary Syndrome because the initial symptoms and initial management are often similar. This research is a descriptive study with a cross sectional design in which the study was conducted to describe the observation of data on the prevalence of major risk factors in patient with acute coronary syndrome who were treated in cardiovascular care units in Haji Adam Malik Hospital in Medan, based on the secondary data which is the patients’ medical record. The major risk factors in patients with acute coronary syndrome observed were hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidaemia and smoking. The population in the study was all the patients with a diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome who were treated in cardiovascular care units Haji Adam Malik Hospital in Medan during the period January 2013 to December 2013, with a sample of 158 patients. This study showed that the prevalence of major risk factors in patients with STEMI by 104 people (65.8%), NSTEMI by 32 people (20.3%) and UAP by 22 people (13.9%). The prevalence of major risk factors in patients with STEMI, NSTEMI and UAP is hypertension, respectively by 80 people (50.6%), 29 (18.9%) and 18 (11.4%). 110100511

    SKA is an international project to build the largest and most sensitive radio telescope ever conceived, being the greatest data research public project, once complete. It will be composed of thousands of antennas on Africa and Australia and it will generate a copious data flux (around 1TB/s). A worldwide distributed network of SKA Regional Centres (SRCs) will provide access to the SKA data, to the analysis tools and processing power. The SRCs will be at the core of the exploitation of SKA data, being the place where the science will be done. We have long been aware of the need to face the challenge of handling SKA data to extract scientific knowledge, and our compromise is that this is done not only in an efficient way, but following the Scientific Method (hence in a reproducible way). Thus we are particularly engaged in the challenge of ensuring that Big Data science becomes Open Science in the SRCs, becoming the SRCs a reference not only in science and technology but also in Scientific Methodology. IAA-CSIC has started prototyping a SRC that will be fully aligned with the Open Science Principles. Astronomy has a long-standing tradition on Open Access through the International Virtual Observatory Alliance (IVOA) but there are new solutions emerging from other fields, involving using e-Science technologies to enhance scientific collaboration, ensuring transparency, opening data collection and methods, or encouraging Open Science.

    Este artículo presenta una contextualización de la historia de la música ska en Costa Rica, la cual se encuentra estrechamente ligada con “la tercera ola de ska” a nivel mundial y el desarrollo de los otros géneros musicales en la década de los 90 en el país. Durante este período se destaca la participación de agrupaciones jóvenes de los “barrios del sur” de San José y otras partes de la Gran Área Metropolitana. A modo de discusión, las personas investigadoras muestran una serie de anotaciones que buscan brindar guía al estudio de la música ska en el país, desde su contexto histórico hasta su importancia a nivel social. This paper presents a contextualization of the history of ska music in Costa Rica, which has a narrow link with the “third wave of ska” at a worldwide level and the development of other music genres in the decade of the 90’s in the country. During this period the participation of groups with young people from the neighborhoods from the south of San José Downtown and other parts from the Great Metropolitan Area it’s a big highlight. In a sense of discussion, the researchers show a series of annotations that try to find guidance to study of ska music in the country, from its historical context to its importance at a social level.     Authors: Hamaide, Valentin;

    This thesis describes different classes of algorithms used in large coupled antenna arrays to produce a desired antenna radiation pattern by finding the proper excitation currents to apply on each antenna. Two type of methods are investigated: methods based on matrix computations and methods based on convex optimization. Those methods are applied to the SKA telescope and we show that they are well suited for a real life application. Syfte: Syftet med studien är att i åtgärdsprogram undersöka hur specialpedagoger dokumenterar och synliggör de elever som finns i gränsområdet av normal och svag begåvning. Metod: Studien är en kvalitativ textanalys som har en diskursteoretisk ansats med en teoretisk bas inom det sociokulturella perspektivet. Empirin som har analyserats har bestått av åtgärdsprogram från årskurs 1-9. Åtgärdsprogrammen har granskats från olika specialpedagogiska perspektiv för att få en djupare insikt och en större förståelse av åtgärdsprogrammens budskap. Studien utfördes i en mindre kommun i Västra Götaland. Kommunen har 17 skolor i stadierna 1-9. Alla skolor förutom särskolan och friskolorna blev tillfrågade att delta i studien. En högstadieskola ville inte delta. Totalt fanns 35 åtgärdsprogram att tillgå. Följande 35 åtgärdsprogram var fördelade på 14 barn varav sju är flickor och resterande sju är pojkar. Resultat: Studien visar att alla åtgärdsprogrammen har en liten variation i textens innehåll. Åtgärderna är relativt lika där skolans åtgärder fokuseras på kompensatoriska verktyg. I de åtgärdsprogram som studerats saknas en helhetsbeskrivning av elevens situation. Åtgärdsprogrammens innehåll visar konsekvent fokus på vad eleven ska uppnå, men sällan på hur det ska uppnås. Resultatet visar att de barn som gränsar mellan normal och svag begåvning har stora och i flera fall orimliga krav på sig. Det skulle kunna innebära att det blir svårt för gråzonsbarnen att leva upp till åtgärdsprogrammens mål och åtgärder. Det finns redan initialt begränsade förutsättningar och en verklighet för de barn som är inom gråzonen att leva upp till flertalet av skolans kunskapskrav. Resultatet belyser ett dilemma i att skolan skall både uppnå kunskapskraven för alla elever och samtidigt erbjuda optimala förutsättningar för utveckling. Detta gäller även elever som har svårt att leva upp till dessa krav. Skolan har krav enligt skollagen att alla elever ska få de förutsättningar som behövs för att uppnå sin individuella fulla potential för att slutligen uppnå lägsta nivån i kunskapskraven. I sin strävan att möta kunskapskraven har skapandet av optimala förutsättningar för att även eleverna med begränsade förutsättningar skall uppnå sin individuella fulla potential hamnat i skymundan. Samtidigt finns de elever som inte har förmågan att uppnå kunskapskraven, de elever som finns i gränslandet mellan normal och svag begåvning elever. Dilemmat blir att skolan arbetar för att alla elever ska uppnå kunskapskraven enligt Lgr 11 oavsett individens förutsättningar.

    The National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) is deeply involved in the designing phase of the Low Frequency Aperture Array (LFAA) of the Square Kilometer Array (SKA). In particular, the technological contributions of INAF are basically spread in three main areas: (i) antenna and array pattern characterization and calibration, (ii) analog and photonic receiver design, and (iii) development of digital back-ends FPGA-based.

    Authors: Lyon, Robert James;

    Searches for pulsars during the past fifty years, have been characterised by two problems making their discovery difficult: i) an increasing volume of data to be searched, and ii) an increasing number of `candidate' pulsar detections arising from that data, requiring analysis. Whilst almost all are caused by noise or interference, these are often indistinguishable from real pulsar detections. Deciding which candidates should be studied is therefore difficult. Indeed it has become known as the `candidate selection problem'. This thesis presents an interdisciplinary study of the selection problem, with the aim of developing a new method able to mitigate it. Specifically for future pulsar surveys undertaken with the Square kilometre Array (SKA). Through a combination of critical literature evaluations, theoretical modelling exercises, and empirical investigations, the selection problem is described in-depth here for the first time. It is shown to be characterised by the dominance of Gaussian distributed noise signals, a factor that no existing selection method accounts for. It also reveals the presence of a significant trend in survey data rates, which suggest that candidate selection is transitioning from an off-line processing procedure, to an on-line, and real-time, decision making process. In response, a new real-time machine learning based method, the GH-VFDT, is introduced in this thesis. The results presented here show that a significant improvement in selection performance can be achieved using the GH-VFDT, which utilises a learning procedure optimised for data characterised by skewed class distributions. Whilst the principled development of new numerical features that maximise the separation between pulsars and Gaussian noise, have also greatly improved GH-VFDT pulsar recall. It is therefore concluded that the sub-optimal performance of existing selection systems, is due to a combination of poor feature design, insensitivity to noise, and an inability to deal with skewed class distributions.

    The unprecedented sensitivity and large field of view of SKA will be of paramount importance for pulsar science, and for many related research fields. In particular, beside the obvious discovery of many more pulsars (even those with very low luminosity), and the extremely accurate timing analysis of the current pulsar population, SKA will allow to use pulsars to measure or put strong constraints on gravitational waves, Galactic magnetism, planet masses, general relativity and nuclear physics.     Authors: Sashitharran S/O Nallathambi;

    This thesis describes different classes of algorithms used in large coupled antenna arrays to produce a desired antenna radiation pattern by finding the proper excitation currents to apply on each antenna. Two type of methods are investigated: methods based on matrix computations and methods based on convex optimization. Those methods are applied to the SKA telescope and we show that they are well suited for a real life application.   • Authors: Larsson Fors, Liselotte;

    Syfte: Syftet med studien är att i åtgärdsprogram undersöka hur specialpedagoger dokumenterar och synliggör de elever som finns i gränsområdet av normal och svag begåvning. Metod: Studien är en kvalitativ textanalys som har en diskursteoretisk ansats med en teoretisk bas inom det sociokulturella perspektivet. Empirin som har analyserats har bestått av åtgärdsprogram från årskurs 1-9. Åtgärdsprogrammen har granskats från olika specialpedagogiska perspektiv för att få en djupare insikt och en större förståelse av åtgärdsprogrammens budskap. Studien utfördes i en mindre kommun i Västra Götaland. Kommunen har 17 skolor i stadierna 1-9. Alla skolor förutom särskolan och friskolorna blev tillfrågade att delta i studien. En högstadieskola ville inte delta. Totalt fanns 35 åtgärdsprogram att tillgå. Följande 35 åtgärdsprogram var fördelade på 14 barn varav sju är flickor och resterande sju är pojkar. Resultat: Studien visar att alla åtgärdsprogrammen har en liten variation i textens innehåll. Åtgärderna är relativt lika där skolans åtgärder fokuseras på kompensatoriska verktyg. I de åtgärdsprogram som studerats saknas en helhetsbeskrivning av elevens situation. Åtgärdsprogrammens innehåll visar konsekvent fokus på vad eleven ska uppnå, men sällan på hur det ska uppnås. Resultatet visar att de barn som gränsar mellan normal och svag begåvning har stora och i flera fall orimliga krav på sig. Det skulle kunna innebära att det blir svårt för gråzonsbarnen att leva upp till åtgärdsprogrammens mål och åtgärder. Det finns redan initialt begränsade förutsättningar och en verklighet för de barn som är inom gråzonen att leva upp till flertalet av skolans kunskapskrav. Resultatet belyser ett dilemma i att skolan skall både uppnå kunskapskraven för alla elever och samtidigt erbjuda optimala förutsättningar för utveckling. Detta gäller även elever som har svårt att leva upp till dessa krav. Skolan har krav enligt skollagen att alla elever ska få de förutsättningar som behövs för att uppnå sin individuella fulla potential för att slutligen uppnå lägsta nivån i kunskapskraven. I sin strävan att möta kunskapskraven har skapandet av optimala förutsättningar för att även eleverna med begränsade förutsättningar skall uppnå sin individuella fulla potential hamnat i skymundan. Samtidigt finns de elever som inte har förmågan att uppnå kunskapskraven, de elever som finns i gränslandet mellan normal och svag begåvning elever. Dilemmat blir att skolan arbetar för att alla elever ska uppnå kunskapskraven enligt Lgr 11 oavsett individens förutsättningar.

    The National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) is deeply involved in the designing phase of the Low Frequency Aperture Array (LFAA) of the Square Kilometer Array (SKA). In particular, the technological contributions of INAF are basically spread in three main areas: (i) antenna and array pattern characterization and calibration, (ii) analog and photonic receiver design, and (iii) development of digital back-ends FPGA-based.

    Authors: Lyon, Robert James;

    Este artículo presenta una contextualización de la historia de la música ska en Costa Rica, la cual se encuentra estrechamente ligada con “la tercera ola de ska” a nivel mundial y el desarrollo de los otros géneros musicales en la década de los 90 en el país. Durante este período se destaca la participación de agrupaciones jóvenes de los “barrios del sur” de San José y otras partes de la Gran Área Metropolitana. A modo de discusión, las personas investigadoras muestran una serie de anotaciones que buscan brindar guía al estudio de la música ska en el país, desde su contexto histórico hasta su importancia a nivel social. This paper presents a contextualization of the history of ska music in Costa Rica, which has a narrow link with the “third wave of ska” at a worldwide level and the development of other music genres in the decade of the 90’s in the country. During this period the participation of groups with young people from the neighborhoods from the south of San José Downtown and other parts from the Great Metropolitan Area it’s a big highlight. In a sense of discussion, the researchers show a series of annotations that try to find guidance to study of ska music in the country, from its historical context to its importance at a social level.
